‘But there’s nothing to do…’

Posted by homiesonthebeat on 24th September 2010

Every teenage generation in every town, everywhere has at some time said ' But there's nothing to do...'  And of course, they always think they're the first to raise this particular point.

Louth, in Lincolnshire, UK, is a small market town.  Like all market towns it doesn't quite hit the spot for many teenagers with a level of 21st century facilities they believe to be basic requirements.  So what to do?  Sit and do nothing?  Or call in the town's mayor, Coun Trevor Marris to a Year 12 Citizenship lesson at Monks' Dyke Technology College - put some points to him and hear his take on the situation.  What can we and can't we do to change things..?

Alcohol equals calories equals ‘does my bum look big in this…’

Posted by homiesonthebeat on 20th May 2010

Another graphic, this time by Connor in the 'Homies'.  We discovered that some girls wern't concerned about the health effects of alcohol. They were worried about drinking large amounts of calories...

One drink too many…

Posted by homiesonthebeat on 20th May 2010

A group of girls in the 'Homies' team created an improvised role play around a party that didn't go quite as planned.  It carries on with the theme of underage drinking.  The girls have been considering how younger girls are attracted to binge drinking.

The party starts well but it has tragic consequences.

The piece was put together in just one hour with a further 20 minutes or so of editing and production.  It was produced by Emily, Ellie, Rachel, Sam, Shanon and Kiera.

At least we’ve got a name now…

Posted by homiesonthebeat on 22nd March 2010

This takes us right back to the beginning. Before we could create a podcast site, we needed a name.  So, around twenty early teens in a room with a board and a black felt tip pen is where we started.  Whether the project ends up with same Year 9 students at Monks' Dyke Technology College in Louth, Lincolnshire, UK or not, remains to be seen.  But PCSO ZaZa Warren from Lincolnshire Police and me, writing the words, both know it's well worth giving this project a go... You're listening to Day One.

Homies on the Beat…coming soon!

Posted by homiesonthebeat on 18th March 2010

Homies  on the Beat is a project connecting young people in a small rural UK town in Lincolnshire with the Police.  A chance for both sides to get together, set the world right and have a laugh along the way.  That's the plan.

And it's coming soon...!
